How many days do you need in Marrakech?

The short answer. Three to four days is the sweet spot — two for the medina, palaces and gardens at an unhurried pace, and one or two for a day out in the Agafay, the Atlas or on the coast. Two days is enough for a first taste or a stopover. Five or more lets you add the real desert or the mountains without rushing. Marrakech is small; the mistake is cramming, not missing.

Two days — a first taste

Plenty for the essentials: the souks and the medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk, one palace or madrasa, one garden, a good dinner. You'll leave having felt the city, if not yet slowed inside it. Ideal as a city break or a stop on a longer Morocco trip.

Three to four days — the sweet spot

This is what I'd choose. Two unhurried days in the city — adding a hammam, a long lunch, the quieter gardens — and one or two for a day trip: the Agafay for a sunset, the Atlas for cool air, or Essaouira for the coast. Enough time that the city stops being a checklist and starts being a place.

Five days or more — add the desert or the mountains

With a week you can do Marrakech properly and go further: an overnight in the real Sahara near Merzouga, a few days walking in the High Atlas, or a slow coastal escape. The city becomes your base rather than the whole trip.

Questions people ask me

How many days do you need?

Three to four — two for the city, one or two for a day trip. Two is a taste; five-plus adds the desert or mountains.

Is two days enough?

Enough for the essentials and a stopover, but little room to slow down or take a day trip. For the real rhythm, give it three or four.

How many days for the desert too?

Add two to three days for the Merzouga dunes — it's a journey and an overnight. The Agafay gives a desert feel in a single day.

Tell me how long you have — I'll make every day count.

Two days or ten, I'll shape the trip so you see the most and rush the least.
