If you can choose, choose these. April, May, October and November give you the Marrakech of the photographs: blue skies, bearable heat, long golden evenings in a courtyard. The gardens — Majorelle, the Secret Garden — are at their fullest, and a day in the Agafay or the Atlas is a pleasure rather than an endurance. These are also the busiest months; book riads and tables early.
June to August the heat is real and unrelenting by mid-afternoon. Locals live around it: out early, indoors at midday, alive again after dark. You can have a wonderful summer trip with a pool, a shaded riad and the cooler Atlas or coast for a day — but if you dream of strolling the medina at noon, this isn't the season.
December to February surprises people. The days are mild and bright; the nights drop sharply, and riads are stone houses built for heat, not cold — bring layers and ask for the heaters. The reward is a quieter city, atmospheric and soft, with snow on the High Atlas behind it.
During the holy month the city fasts by day and comes alive at dusk. It is a moving time to visit — the evenings are joyful — but daytime rhythms, some restaurants and opening hours shift. Come with that in mind, and let me tell you what's open and what's best.
| Season | Feel | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Spring · Apr–May | Warm days, cool nights ★ | Everything — the ideal window |
| Summer · Jun–Aug | Very hot | Pool riads, early starts, the coast |
| Autumn · Oct–Nov | Warm, golden ★ | Gardens, medina, desert |
| Winter · Dec–Feb | Sunny by day, cold at night | Quiet, atmosphere, the Atlas snow |
April–May or October–November — warm days, cool evenings, gardens at their best, without the summer heat.
June–August are very hot, often past 38°C. Manageable with a pool and early mornings, but not the gentle Marrakech most people picture.
Mild and sunny by day, cold at night — pack layers. Quieter, atmospheric, with snow on the Atlas behind the city.
