Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech

Over the Tizi n'Tichka to the great dunes — Merzouga or Zagora, by private car, done without the minibus.

← All experiences

In short. A private journey from Marrakech to the true Sahara — the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) or the nearer Zagora — by private car over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with the right camp and the right nights. Two to three days does it justice; I plan the route, the stops along the way, and the desert night.

The Sahara is a long road from Marrakech, and most people meet it from a cramped minibus on someone else's schedule. Done privately — your own car, your own pace, the right stops — it becomes one of the great journeys on earth.

Merzouga or Zagora

Merzouga's Erg Chebbi has the towering, cinematic dunes you picture, and is worth the full day's drive each way. Zagora is closer and good when days are short. I'll match it to the time you have and the season you're travelling.

The road is half of it

Over the Tizi n'Tichka, through Aït Benhaddou and the Draa valley, with the stops that turn a transfer into a journey — in a private car with a driver who knows the road, not a shared van on a fixed clock.

Questions people ask me

How many days do you need for the Sahara from Marrakech?

Two at a minimum, three to do it without rushing. Merzouga's great dunes are a full day's drive each way; Zagora is closer if time is short.

Merzouga or Zagora — which is better?

Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the towering dunes you imagine; Zagora is nearer and good when days are limited. I'll match it to your time and the season.

Private or group tour?

Private car and driver, your own pace and stops — not a shared minibus. It costs more and is worth every dirham on a road this long.
